Police seize huge haul of cigarettes and tobacco after stopping vehicle in Gravesend

Police seized a large haul of cigarettes and tobacco after stopping a suspicious vehicle in Gravesend in the early hours of this morning.

Officers from Gravesham's police team stopped an Audi A3 in Kent Road, at 12.35am, following a report of suspicious behaviour.

They later tweeted that they had found "approx. 51’000 cigarettes and tobacco" in the vehicle, and that the driver had been arrested.

Kent Police said the driver, a 24-year-old man from Swanley, was arrested on suspicion of driving without a licence or insurance, taking a motor vehicle without the owner's consent and theft of cigarettes.

He remains in custody.
