Wildfire in Seven Fields, Gravesend, causes smoke to be seen as far as Medway

Firefighters are still at the scene of a large field blaze – with smoke from being seen for miles around.

One engine remains with a crew damping down any remaining hot spots now that the fire has been put out.

The fire broke out when grass caught alight in Seven Fields in Gravesend, which runs parallel to Thong Lane and Rochester Road.

At the height of the blaze five fire engines were at the scene of the wildfire which involved a field of cut corn.

A Fire and Rescue spokesman said: “People are advised to avoid the area while crews work to bring the fire under control.”

The service was called to the scene at 2.41pm and at 5pm it was confirmed the fire is out.

Black plumes of smoke can be seen billowing across Gravesend and Medway.
