A number of people from the Gravesham and Dartford area have been fined by magistrates for travelling on the railway without paying the fare.

Southeastern says considerable amounts of money are lost through fare-dodging among a "small minority" of their passengers among the 170 million journeys each year.

Its website states: "This is...very unfair on the honest, paying majority. We are committed to ensuring all journeys are paid for. All passengers must have a valid ticket (or permit to travel) for their journey."

The following people from north Kent have been convicted at Medway Magistrates' Court of travelling on the railway without paying the fare:

Tobi Olusola, 24, of Gerald Road, Gravesend, fined £440, ordered to pay £5 compensation and £125 costs.

Wayne Percibal, 41, of Gloucester Road, Gravesend, fined £440, ordered to pay £5 compensation and £125 costs.

Delroy Samuel, 35, of Jubilee Crescent, Gravesend, fined £440, ordered to pay £3.50 compensation and £125 costs.

Lenny Scamp, 26, of Leigh Road, Gravesend, fined £440, ordered to pay £2.80 compensation and £125 costs.

James Westley, 20, of Medhurst Gardens, Gravesend, fined £440, ordered to pay £3.70 compensation and £125 costs.

Filmon Yebyo, 19, of Kenwyn Road, Dartford, fined £120, ordered to pay £9.20 compensation and £125 costs.

Mallacai Zachariah, 22, of Portchester Close, Hartley, fined £440, ordered to pay £8 compensation and £125 costs.
