Longfield Post Office could move into McColl's convenience store and newsagent

Longfield's village post office could be on the move to a new location.

It is currently in its own building in Station Road but the Post Office is proposing moving it down the road into McColl's convenience store and newsagent.

The move would mean the post office would be open seven days a week instead of the current six days as McColl's opens on a Sunday.

It would be available from 7am to 1pm on Sundays.

It would also be open for longer hours during the week - 5.30am to 7pm instead of the current 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday as well as 6.30am to 7pm on a Saturday rather than 9am to 12.30pm.

The Post Office has now launched a six-week consultation to gain people's views on the proposed move.

Suzanne Richardson, regional manager, said: “We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important these services are to local residents.

"We are confident this vibrant new-style post office at the heart of the local community will meet customer needs. This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office.”

The new branch would be laid out in an open-plan style.

The Post Office has been asked whether any services would be lost as a result of the move.
