Ebbsfleet manager Dennis Kutrieb says Franklin Domi won’t get carried away by his brilliant start to the season.

The 22-year-old produced a man-of-the-match display during Saturday’s 4-1 National League win over York at Stonebridge Road.

He looks at home in the heart of the Fleet midfield but Kutrieb knows there will be inconsistent displays throughout the campaign.

“He is a young player so he will be good and not so good, that’s just normal as a young player,” explained the Fleet boss.

“When he plays he is already very composed, wants to get on the ball, makes good decisions and he made outstanding tackles on top of it on Saturday.

“He is growing with confidence and quality as well. He’s such a young player, he can learn on a daily basis.

“He’s not getting carried away. When he sees a good picture, he just gets it done. He works hard, both feet are grounded.

“He nearly missed (the goal) because he stopped instead of getting his shot off straight away but then he saw his chance and had another turn to get it in the back of the net.”

Domi joined the Fleet originally as a centre-back or left-back. But Kutrieb saw enough in Domi to use him further forward and he looks a natural, with an eye for goal as well.

“The challenge will be if we put him in that (defensive) position because we need him there, is he still able to deliver there? That will be an interesting question,” said Kutrieb.

“But at this moment in time, because he’s good enough to score goals and the pass for Dominic Poleon’s goal on top of it, he has qualities going forward massively.

“That’s what you always need to see as a manager when players come in having played different positions. We have more than enough - Greg Cundle and Darren McQueen were strikers.

“What I try to do is put them in the best possible position for us in our team, where they can help us most. Franklin Domi is having a great impact at the moment.”

The Fleet were always in control against York, collecting a third successive home win thanks to goals from Domi and Omari Sterling-James, which were added to after the break by Craig Tanner and Dominic Poleon.

“It was exactly what we needed after Monday when we tried hard but didn’t really get into the game how we wanted,” said Kutrieb.

“It was a perfect match with the opponent not at their best at the moment. They tried to chase us but still gave us more than enough space.

“It was a great performance, I was very happy with them. Especially in the first half, we could and should have scored more goals so to go in with a 2-1 lead was not good enough from us.

“That’s what I told the boys at half-time and it worked well as we scored another goal straight away and that settled the game down. We need to make sure we put our chances away and score our goals when they come up.”
