Fleet suffer heavy defeat

GRAVESEND were comfortably beaten at Morecambe in the Nationwide Conference on Saturday.

The home side took the lead on the quarter hour mark when skipper Jim Bentley rose highest to flick on a deep free-kick and the ball fell nicely for Wayne Curtis to score from close range.

And the lead was doubled seven minutes before half-time when Curtis turned provider to cut the ball back for top scorer Danny Carlton to net his 16th goal of the season.

Morecambe effectively put the game beyond Fleet less than a minute into the second half when Carlton put them three up after being set up by Fraser McLachlan.
