Fleet travel home with a point

SENT OFF: Paul McCarthy
SENT OFF: Paul McCarthy

Cambridge United 1 - 1 Gravesend & Northfleet

TEN-MAN Gravesend took a point from their Nationwide Conference trip to Cambridge United on Saturday.

Fleet took the lead against the run of play after 33 minutes. Bobby Bowry was originally booked for taking a free-kick to quickly, but he won't have minded as Jimmy Jackson curled the retaken set piece into the back of the Cambridge net.

The home side were given a lift in the 68th minute when Fleet defender Paul McCarthy was given his marching orders for holding back Fola Onibuje when clean through on goal.

And McCarthy's mistake was punished when Cambridge equalised nine minutes later through Courtney Pitt, who was on hand to hammer home after Onibuje's initial header had been parried by Craig Holloway.

Gravesend: Holloway, Gooding, R Smith, McCarthy, Watkins, Drury, Bowry, Slatter, Jackson, MacDonald (Rawle h-t), Moore (J Smith 72).
Subs Not Used: Kerr, Fuller, Hodgson.
