Ford: We want back-to-back wins

GRAVESEND & Northfleet manager Andy Ford wants his team to start stringing some good results together as they look to build on an encouraging start to the Conference season.

Gravesend, who picked up an excellent 2-1 victory at Northwich Victoria last weekend, currently sit in mid-table with 15 points from 12 games.

Ford said: "We're holding own our in the division and, at the start of the season, I would have been pleased with that. But it would be nice to get back-to-back wins because, although we've won matches this season, we haven't strung some results together.

"We could also do with keeping a few more clean sheets because we've struggled to stop teams scoring goals. Last year we were very good at that."

With defenders Aaron Barnett, Francis Duku, Nick Burton and Justin Skinner unavailable through injury, Ford has needed to use a makeshift back four this season. However, he believes the arrival of centre-back Tim Cole, on loan from Dagenham & Redbridge for one month, has helped the team.

Another player to catch the eye in recent weeks is young forward Liam Hatch who, despite being one of the fringe players at the club last year, has forced his way into the starting line-up and scored his first goal of the season at Northwich.

With Scarborough visiting Stonebridge Road on Saturday, Steve McKimm and Hatch should be available for selection after both picked up injuries at the weekend.
