Manager Dennis Kutrieb stated Ebbsfleet had only themselves to blame after dropping two points in stoppage time on Tuesday night.

Hosts Farnborough scored a last-gasp equaliser to salvage a 2-2 draw in National League South against runaway leaders Ebbsfleet.

“We need to make sure we kill the game off,” said Kutrieb. “We had two massive chances and we needed to go 3-1 up and the game was over.

“You can always concede late, as they throw everything up front. It can always happen in football. It could have happened on Saturday or last Tuesday but today it happened.

“It’s our own fault. We have to make sure we finish the game off. If we don’t score, we sometimes get what we don’t want to have.

“It’s a good point away, Farnborough are pushing for the play-offs and we knew exactly how important this game was and how difficult. Three away games in a row and seven points is happy days, not at this moment in time but tomorrow we’ll be happy.”

Kutrieb was critical of the Cherrywood Road pitch, which appeared heavily sanded and lacked a true bounce.

“This pitch is horrible, it’s so bobbly and dry and they didn’t want to put water on it before the game,” said the Fleet boss.

“Obviously, they had their own game plan, they were sharp and pressed us and we needed to get used to the pitch.

“It took us 45 minutes as second half we played a really good game. That’s what we wanted for 90 minutes.

“It is what it is, a nice stadium but the pitch is not matching. That’s how it is when you play away, you need to get used to everything. You could see so many first touches wrong, what you don’t normally see from our boys.”

The Fleet boss was not impressed with the referee at the final whistle, and he explained what his complaints were about.

“We had a situation on the counter break and he waited until we crossed the halfway line and then he stopped the game,” stated Kutrieb.

“He can stop the game when we clear it or when it’s in the back of the net. But he can’t stop it when we are one versus one on the last defender and someone who was fresh and had been on for 10 minutes was running against someone who was already done. It’s ridiculous but it is what it is.”

The late goal was a blow for Kutrieb’s men but he won’t be downbeat for long.

“We just need to make sure we’re ready for all of the challenges that are waiting for us,” he added.

“We’ve 11 games left, where we want to make sure we win as many as we can.

“We’re still on the unbeaten run, my heart is broken (because of the late goal) but tomorrow we will be fine. We’ve had three away games and got seven points, to stay unbeaten after those matches is good.”
