Ebbsfleet United boss Daryl McMahon praises his team's defending in the 2-0 win at Maidstone United

Ebbsfleet boss Daryl McMahon praised his defence after Tuesday's derby win at Maidstone.

Two goals from Jordan Parkes settled the game in the Fleet's favour at the Gallagher Stadium and a fantastic rearguard action stopped the Stones whenever they pushed forward.

McMahon said: "I didn’t realise how small (their pitch) was so I just wanted us to pass it in their half as much as we could and I think – in the first half especially – we did that.

"In the second half, it was harder, they went direct and it was difficult to defend against but we did in the end.

"We lacked a bit of quality in the second half in terms of getting on the ball and passing it but our desire and blocking in front of our goal and defending our box was unbelievable tonight.

"We knew it was going to be a difficult game here, 2,300 people in, but I thought the boys played really well.

"It was great to keep a clean sheet, great to get the two goals and getting Parkesy off the mark as well."
