Daryl McMahon admitted Ebbsfleet's 4-0 opening day Vanarama National League South win over Poole was an almost perfect start

McMahon's programme notes for the game centred around the need to not to dwell on the disappointments of last season, insisting there was no room to "mope around" and his new-look squad needed no "spurring on".- and this proved it.

The Fleet boss said: said: "We couldn't keep thinking about last season, and that's all in the past now. We have to move on.

"I was pleased with most of our play, apart from a couple of things which wasn't happy and felt we had too bigger gap between defence and midfield.

Fleet merged from a lively first half with a 1-0 lead - but a half-time reshuffle and the introduction of Anthony Cook proved key changes.

McMahon added: "We sent Matt Fish on at half time instead of Reiss Greenidge and went four at the back, and pushed Shaun Shields into midfield, with the introduction of Anthony Cook in the second half.

"The substitution was made easier as Reiss was booked just before half-time.

" Poole are a good side and tested us several times in the first half."

"The new boys did well - with Jack Powell making one and scoring one - and Dean Rance is always capable of scoring a goal like our first."

Another new signing, defender Mark Phlllips missed the game due to suspension, but is available for the midweek-trip to Concord Rangers, while injured midfielder Stuart Lewis trained before the kick-off.
