Gravesend & Northfleet 2 Histon 1

GRAVESEND came from a goal behind to win 2-1 against Southern League side Histon and book their place in the last 16 of the FA Trophy on Saturday.

Goals from Jay Saunders and Manny Omoyinmi cancelled out an early goal by the visitors and capped a fine second half performance by Fleet.

Histon had taken the lead with their first attack of the match after 12 minutes as Neil Kennedy got away from Graham Porter and drove the ball confidently home.

Fleet created little in a poor first period. Roy Essandoh and James Pinnock were working hard up front, but there was no end product. Andy Drury was lively on the right, but struggled to have the impact he could have had from a more central position.

The turning point came with the introduction of Omoyinmi at half-time. He replaced Essandoh, who has now failed to score in 112 days, and Fleet immediately looked a different side.

The striker injected life into the forward line and Histon had no answer to his movement as he dragged confused defenders out of position.

Saunders' equaliser came in the 58th minute from a Jimmy Jackson corner, but it was fitting that Omoyinmi made himself the hero with the winner.

Half of the Nationwide Conference teams are out of the competition so Fleet will be confident of further progression when the draw for the next round is made.

Gravesend: Wilkerson; Protheroe, Porter, Drury, Gledhill, McCarthy, Saunders, Surey, Jackson, Essandoh (Omoyinmi 46), Pinnock.

Attendance: 659.
