A "kind and loving" mum who died after overdosing on prescription drugs was found in the night by her husband.

Angela Parker, 75, was discovered in the bathroom of her Herne Bay home just a few days before Christmas.

A retired printer, Mrs Parker was prescribed tablets after breaking her arm following a fall in her house in Crossley Avenue on December 4.

In "great discomfort" with the fracture of her humerus, an inquest held at Canterbury Coroners' Court yesterday heard how she had "had enough of her injury".

Mrs Parker's daughter Louise Gasson told the court how her mother, a keen gardener, was struggling with life due to the pain.

She desperately wanted to have an operation to be rid of the discomfort yet was continuing to live with her arm in a sling.

On one occasion, Mrs Parker is said to have concocted a story that her husband Alfred had suffered a fall at home and needed emergency treatment.

Ambulance crews arrived to find him without injury and he was insistent that he had not fallen.

It is believed Mrs Parker hoped paramedics would have taken her husband to hospital - leaving her alone at home and allowing her a chance to overdose without interference.

Mrs Gasson said: "She wanted dad to be taken to hospital so he was out of the house.

"Mum was also adamant that she did not want me to come round when I called her."

Yesterday's inquest went on to hear how on December 22 Mrs Parker went to the bathroom at 9pm.

Her husband went to check on her at 10pm to find her sitting motionless on the toilet. He then placed a pillow to rest her head. PC Mitchell Thoroughgood told the inquest that Mr Parker is believed to have dementia.

Mr Parker later alerted the emergency services at 5am when he went back into the bathroom after realising his wife was not in bed.

Police arrived to find Mrs Parker in the bathroom.

After hearing all the evidence, assistant coroner James Dillon concluded that the 75-year-old, originally from Tunbridge Wells, intentionally took her own life.

"She fabricated stories and a scenario to get keep everyone away and wanted to be alone," he said.

"I am satisfied - and would be beyond reasonable doubt - that Mrs Parker purposely took an overdose."

Following the inquest, daughter Louise Gasson paid tribute to her mother.

"She was a much-loved person who was a loving mum," she said.

"She loved her gardening and liked keeping herself to herself. Unfortunately things took a turn for the worse after she got injured and decided on what she wanted to do.

"Mum was a very kind and lovely person."
