KM and Barclays aim to kick start growth

BARCLAYS has joined forces with the Kent Messenger Group and marketing expert Jim McLaughlin to kick start businesses in Maidstone and Medway.

The bank will be running a free seminar, Going for Growth?, on June 18 at the Hilton Hotel, Maidstone.

It is one of a series of so-called Kick Start events being held nationwide in the bank's campaign to help businesses get into shape to meet competitive threats.

More than 2,000 owner-managers have already attended the series up and down the land. More than 95 per cent have said they would be making changes as a result.

The workshop, open alike to customers and non-customers of Barclays, will focus on practical solutions based around two essentials -- what the business does and how it sells its products or services.

Phil Johnson, head of small business for Barclays in Kent said: "As part of Barclays ongoing commitment to supporting UK businesses, we are pleased to be working with the KM to organize this event.

"Keeping up the momentum a business had when it started can be hard once it's up and running. That's why it's important to step back, stop for breath and take a look at what has been achieved so far.

"This workshop, which is open to all small businesses in the area, provides an opportunity to do this."

The Kick Start event will help business people assess their strengths and weaknesses and to recognize the true potential of their business.

Mr McLaughlin has spent the past six years working on leadership, strategic and people management projects.

He was director of the UK's leading growth programme for high growth independent businesses and advised many clients.

He said: "What differentiates great businesses from people with great ideas is the ability to act quickly and decisively and focus their efforts on those activities that will provide the highest return. Attending this workshop will provide some guidance on how to do this."

The event, held between 9.30am and 1.30pm, includes free breakfast and lunch.
