Plane contract keeps Hi-Tec Spray flying high

HI-TEC Spray Ltd, the surface coatings equipment specialist, was involved with the construction of the Airbus A380, the biggest passenger plane in the world.

The company worked with another industrial coating firm to supply equipment to spray the huge wings of the plane, which was unveiled at a factory in Toulouse, France.

Hi-Tec Spray, which is based at Parkwood Industrial Estate in Maidstone, was also commissioned to supply the mixing "kitchen" used to mix the materials that coat the wings.

It takes six hours to apply one of three coats to the wings that have an 80-metre span, almost the width of a football pitch.

With a surface area of 845 square metres, 50 litres are needed to cover just one wing.

Garry Dowling, managing director of Hi-Tec Spray, said: "This prestigious contract is worth a substantial amount to Hi-Tec Spray and underlines our reputation as a key supplier to the airline and aerospace industry.

"Winning this type of business underpins our company's expansion and future prosperity."
