Visitors eye up the IT

A TOTAL of 35 prospective students have been shown round BAE Systems to find out about the special learning opportunity it offers.

The Rochester company has teamed up with the University of Kent at Medway to provide an electronic and computer systems foundation degree course. The two-year foundation degree course, which took its first students last September, is run by the university and sponsored by the firm.

Students get the benefit of paid tuition fees, paid work experience and £1,500 a year while they learn. There is also the chance of full-time positions with BAE Systems upon successful completion.

Eight are already on the programme and the target for next September is 30.
