£3m funding shortfall won't halt leisure centre project

THE £11million transformation of Gillingham's Black Lion leisure centre is set to go ahead - even though Medway Council still has to find £3million.

The project is intended to be the council's legacy of the 2012 Olympics.

The council will be asked to proceed with the project, even though it could mean the complex being partly-built, then standing empty until further funds can be found.

The Tories have a majority on the council, so they are unlikely to be defeated.
