A Kent athlete has become the second to win an Olympic medal.

Ashford rower Tom Ransley won bronze after a dramatic men’s eight final at Eton Dorney this afternoon.

The 26-year-old was in the Great Britain boat which produced a storming performance, taking the lead in the second half of the race.

Ransley grew up in Ashford and is a former pupil from Canterbury's King's School.

Yesterday, William Fox-Pitt, from Canterbury, won a silver medal in the Olympics three-day eventing.
