Craig Jones suffered serious head injuries and died in hospital

A motorcyclist has died after suffering serious head injuries in an accident during Sunday's World Superbike championship in front of 100,000 spectators at Kent's Brands Hatch circuit.

He collided with another rider after appearing to lose control and falling from his Honda bike.

The 23-year-old from Cheshire was airlifted to the Royal London Hospital but died from his injuries in the early hours of Monday morning.

Circuit boss Jonathan Palmer said: "I am so desperately sad. He was a really super young guy, so determined and professional.

"Britain has lost a wonderful rider who had every chance of being a future world champion."
