Young racers are revving up for the Thanet primary schools battery-powered grand prix on Saturday.

Dozens of youngsters have been building and customising the Goblin kit cars in preparation for the race at a specially-created circuit in the grounds of Chatham House Grammar School in Ramsgate.

The environmentally-friendly competition is based around the Green Power challenge that senior schools across the UK have been taking part in for more than six years.

The Chatham House team has regularly finished in the top five of the competition and has represented the region in the finals at Goodwood racing circuit on numerous occasions.

The event includes a driving skills demonstration, race team briefing, judging of design portfolios, and a 45-minute race that involves skilful and speedy pit stops and driver changes.

Prizes will be awarded for car design, best presented team, build portfolio, greenest car made with recycled materials, race winner and driving skills winner.

The race starts at 11am and finishes at 11.45am. Prize giving is at 12.30pm.
