Charlie Lee is expected to be fit for selection ahead of Gillingham's home game with Torquay.

The summer signing from Peterborough has yet to show his best form for the Gills on a consistent basis but boss Andy Hessenthaler is hoping to be able to play him in his preferred midfield position from now on.

Lee (pictured) was playing right-back before suffering a knee injury.

Hessenthaler said: "He gives us something different. He is a driving force in midfield. That's where we brought him to play and we need to get him back in there.

"When he came here last year he was phenomenal at times. We are going to need him back and hopefully we can get him back at the weekend."

Lee played for an hour in a practice match on Tuesday at the training ground and came through unscathed.

Hessenthaler added: "He was nearly involved on Tuesday but we decided on medical advice to get him some minutes on the training ground. He looked OK, there was no reaction."

Hessenthaler is also hoping Simon King can continue to put his injury problems behind him. The last week has tested his damaged ankles to the limit after playing two 90 minutes.

He said: "I am confident he will be OK and he is as well. He has a bit of a spring in his step."
