Death crash clues sought at road checks

MORE than 150 motorists were stopped at road checks last night by police officers seeking information about a fatal crash a week earlier that claimed the life of a 20-year-old woman.

Lauren Jones, of Crescent Road, Ramsgate, was a front seat passenger in a Vauxhall Cavalier that crashed through the central reservation of the dual carriagway near Seamark Road at Brooksend Hill, Birchington, and hit a Seat car heading towards St Nicholas.

A male passenger in the Cavalier remains in hospital at Margate with serious leg injuries, and police are still hunting the driver of the vehicle. The Seat driver and passenger suffered minor injuries and shock.

The fatal crash happened shortly after 10.30pm on Monday of last week. An inquest has been opened and adjourned.

Detective Inspector Nick Greenan said: “I would like to thank all the members of the public the officers spoke to last night for their assistance. As a result of the road check we now have further lines of enquiry to follow up.”
