The hunt is on for the person who stole a 92-year-old woman's handbag after she had fallen over in Sandwich.

The elderly victim was pushing her shopping trolley near the war memorial in Market Street when she lost her footing.

Several people came to help her and an ambulance was called. After the incident, she noticed her handbag, which had cash and bank cards in, was gone.

A police spokesman said it is not thought the woman was badly hurt, but she was shaken.

The theft happened at around 9.30am on Monday, January 18 - although the details have only just been released by police.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
