A full-scale national manhunt for an escaped murderer has ended with him being arrested in Faversham.

John Massey, who fled from Pentonville Prison in London on Wednesday, was caught at an address in Faversham at around 5.15pm today.

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Specialist Crime and Operations Command arrested the 64-year-old after what was described as an "intelligence-led operation".

He has been taken into custody at a north London police station, and a second man at the same address was arrested on suspicion of aiding and abetting an absconder.

He was also taken into custody, but no details of his identity have been released.
