Andy Coulson cleared of perjury during phone hacking trial

Andy Coulson - the ex-editor jailed for intercepting voicemails - has today been cleared of lying in court.

The ex-News of the World editor and former Downing Street press secretary was acquitted of perjury charges by a court in Edinburgh.

He denied lying under oath about phone hacking during the trial of politician Tommy Sheridan in 2010.

Outside the court the journalist, who lives in east Kent, said he was delighted with the result, but dubbed the case a "gross waste of public money".
