Fatal crash: Police seek key witnesses

THREE motorists who witnessed a fatal road crash in Ramsgate may hold vital information, say police. Jaguar driver Francis Bobbing, 64, of Central Parade, Herne Bay, was indicating to turn off Canterbury Road West, into Thorne Hill when a car transporter struck him from behind on Wednesday of last week.

Mr Bobbing’s car was pushed into the path of a Ford Mondeo travelling in the opposite direction. Kent Air Ambulance was called to the scene at Canterbury Road West, but Mr Bobbing died from his injuries.

A family travelling in the Mondeo, a 36-year-old woman, a 33-year-old man, a six-year-old girl and an 18-month-old baby, escaped without serious injuries from the crash.

Police are keen to speak to the drivers of e two cars travelling directly behind the car transporter, and the driver of a car behind the Mondeo. Police spokeswoman Gemma Pettman said: "None of these drivers have yet come forward, and it is extremely important they do. They may have seen something that will help us piece together what happened."

Any witnesses who have not yet been interviewed are asked to contact PC Richard Lawton on 01843 222124. The driver of the car transporter, a 35-year-old man from Powys, Wales, has been bailed without charge until March 7.
