Figures behind the facts

• The STG is read by an average 21,269 people a week from a population of 38,000*.

• It is stocked in 32 newsagents and stores across the Island.

• Most copies - an average of 2,000 - are sold in Tesco, Sheerness.

• It was purchased by the Kent Messenger Group (KMG) in 1987.

• It has been printed, in recent times on Wednesdays, at the company's HQ in Larkfield near Aylesford.

• It became the Times and Guardian in 1939 when the Island's two papers merged.

• It changed from broadsheet size to a tabloid in 1976.

• As a rough estimation, our photographers take up to 50,000 pictures a year.

Of these, they submit an estimated 15,000 images for consideration for use.

• During the course of the paper's history, there have been six monarchs and 28 prime ministers.
