Firefighters battle woodland blaze

WOODS near a Kent town caught fire late last night and crews were still on site this morning damping down.

The blaze started about 11pm in East Blean Woods, off Hicks Forstal Road, Herne Common, near Herne Bay.

Eight engines from stations around east Kent attended and it took about three hours to bring the blaze under control.

A spokesman from Canterbury fire station said: "The access to the site was extremely difficult."
