Andy Hessenthaler is hoping to have at least one new signing in place before Gillingham face Stoke City in the FA Cup on Saturday.

The Gills are hoping to land striker Jo Kuffour on a new deal from Bristol Rovers but Hessenthaler revealed he is chasing more than just one player in the January transfer window.

"We may have a new face, we may have two," he said.

"We will have to wait and see whether they will be allowed to play in the FA Cup. One might be."

Chairman Paul Scally (pictured) is back in the country this week, ahead of the big Stoke clash, and Hessenthaler will be keen to talk transfers on his return.

"I will be talking to him over the next couple of days," said the Gills boss.

"He has been talking while on his holidays on the phone with different situations. I do need a bit of time with him.

"He will be delighted with (Monday's) result and he will look forward to coming back for the Stoke game. He also knows that the bread and butter is the league. We would love to cause an upset at the weekend because the money all helps."

Hessenthaler's number one striker option remains Kuffour but he admitted interest in Dagenham's Gavin Tomlin, although no approach has been made.

Hessenthaler said: "He was spoken about a few weeks back and I liked him when he was at Torquay last year. He did very well.

"His agent has spoken to me but I haven't spoken to John Still (Dagenham manager) at the moment.

"There are a few players out there. We are looking at options. Tomlin is Dagenham's player and that's pretty much it at the moment."

o Around 200 seats will be available for the Stoke game in the Brian Moore stand on Wednesday morning, from 9am, at the club's ticket office. They are the final spaces remaining for home fans.
