Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler has already picked his team for Saturday’s opener with Cheltenham.

The Gills boss (pictured) had his starting XI in mind before the weekend’s match with Peterborough but insists nobody should read anything into that game.

He said: "There may be a few thinking that because they didn’t start the game I won’t be playing them on Saturday but that’s not the case.

"We are shaping up really nicely. There is competition for places all over the pitch and that keeps the players hungry.

"I have got my 11 and nothing has changed on Saturday."

Danny Kedwell is a definite starter and could be playing as a lone striker in a 4-5-1 formation.

"The five in midfield has worked very well in pre-season," Hessenthaler said.

"As long as we get support to Danny then we will cause teams lots of problems. We have just caused problems to two teams in the Championship and one in League 1 during pre-season."

Kedwell has impressed the Gills boss during the summer.

"He was outstanding (on Saturday)," he said. "He’s a lone striker and he never gives the ball away. I am excited by the signing."
