Gillingham manager Mark Stimson unlikely to bring in new players ahead of transfer deadline

Gillingham manager Mark Stimson has his eye on another striker but admits a lack of finances means he’s unlikely to bag his target.

The transfer window for loan signings closes on Thursday and Stimson (pictured) may have to go with what he’s got for the remainder of the season.

Stimson’s squad is already awash with strikers but he believes the more he has the better.

“It’s very unlikely anything will happen,” he said. “There is one out there who we would like but it’s just finances unfortunately.

“The player would certainly add something to us but if the funds aren’t there they aren’t there.

“You’ve got to score goals to win football matches and the more strikers you have the more chance you have of scoring goals but it doesn’t look like he is going to happen. It’s frustrating but that’s life.

“We’ve got a good honest bunch here, they’ll have a go, and that’s all we can do.”

Stimson already has Simeon Jackson, Andy Barcham, Chris Dickson, Dennis Oli, Rene Howe, James Walker, Luis Cumbers, Mark McCammon, Andy Pugh, Jacob Erskine and Luke Rooney on the club’s books who can play in the forward positions.
