Luke Rooney was on target for Gillingham in a behind-closed-doors friendly match with Dagenham on Wednesday afternoon.

The forward (pictured), who is available for selection again this weekend after completing a three-match ban, tucked a spot-kick away at the second attempt. His first was saved but retaken following encroachment.

Danny Jackman and Dennis Oli appeared for the Gills as they look to regain match fitness after both recently returned from illness. There was no place for Simon King, however, who recently suffered a bout of tonsillitis.

With no reserve team this season the match was arranged to give players valuable match practice. The Gills also took the opportunity to look at Ghanaian striker Julian Owusu-Bekoe. The match ended 1-1.

Gills: Gazzaniga (Bourne 81mins), Fish (Hare 73mins), Jackman, Brunt (Evans 55mins), Richards, Davies, Dack, Hessenthaler (Mackenzie 75mins), Owusu-Bekoe (Nyafli 69mins), Rooney (Ford 73mins), Miller (Oli 46mins).
