Barry Fuller praised his team-mates early work rate as they hit Yeovil hard early on in Tuesday night’s League 1 win.

The Gills won courtesy of Simeon Jackson’s ninth minute penalty kick.

“We started the game on fire,” said the Gills’ captain. “It’s probably the best we’ve started all season. You have to give credit to their keeper because he kept them in it and he made four or five great saves in the first half.

“It turned out to be a bit of a cling on at the end of the game but we will take the three points however it comes.

“They stuck in even though it was tough in the first half for them. They dug in and at the end we had to fight for our lives and defend. We did that well and kept a clean sheet and three points.

Fuller almost broke his goalscoring duck for the Gills with second half free-kick that hit the post.

“It would have been the first for about three and a half years,” said the 25-year-old. “I was half celebrating when it hit the inside of the post but it wasn’t to be and the same man (Jackson) got the headlines again by scoring the winning goal!”
