Heart of the matter

Sometimes love is sweet and sometimes it feels like it has cut out your heart, as Richard Herring reveals in his new show What is Love, Anyway?

The veteran of 32 shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival has dealt with issues of religion in his Christ on a Bike tour and politics in Hitler Moustache.

His latest musings see the star of BBC Radio 4’s Richard Herring’s Objective try to define and destroy love before it destroys him.

Made famous as part of cult comedy duo Lee & Herring, Richard wonders whether love is just a chemical reaction in our brains by which our body selects potential sexual partners or a magical force which guides us unerringly to our soul mate? Yet he finds it odd that love usually waits until we are drunk at a nightclub to do so.

This honest examination of Richard’s romantic ups and downs comes to Canterbury’s Gulbenkian Theatre on Tuesday, February 14. Tickets £15. Box office 01227 769075.
