A HORSE has had to be put down and two others left traumatised after attackers cut off their tails and manes and fed the animals food in a fatal form.

The horses were given dry sugar beet pellets that expand with liquid in the stomach.

The attacks occurred in a field on the Coombe Farm Estate at Tovil, near Maidstone.

The owner of the animals, Rosemary Humphreys, of Lower Road, Maidstone, said: "I’m absolutely devastated. I’m sick and horrified that people can be so cruel."

The horse that has had to be destroyed, named Chantine, was the dam of the two others.

Maidstone and Malling Police are appealing for witnesses and information. If you can help telephone the crime management unit on 01622 608189.
