Hunt for key death crash witness

POLICE investigating a fatal road accident in Sussex are attempting to trace a vital witness believed to live in Kent.

The crash happened on the B2116 at the junction with Twineham Lane at Albourne, near Haywards Heath, close to the main A23 Brighton to London road.

The victim, 60-year-old Victor Backshall from Horsham, died at the scene of the smash, which took place at 6.45am on Wednesday, November 8 last year. He was driving a Reliant Robin.

Sgt Andrew Judson, who is leading the investigation, said: "A few days later we received an anonymous call from a man in the Medway area who appears to be the only witness.

"He may not realise the importance of what he saw and we are urging him to contact us again."
