A WOMAN tried to kick a man in the head when he twice looked under her cubicle while she was changing at a swimming pool.

Ruth Anderson, 37, said she had been unable to sleep soundly since the incident at Larkfield Leisure Centre, near Maidstone.

She had taken her son Josh, eight, for a swim on Sunday when she saw the man looking under the cubilce partition.

She said: "At first I gave him the benefit of the doubt but when he did it again I tried to kick him in the head and shouted at him."

Mrs Anderson, from Maidstone, who also has a one-year-old daughter, Evie, blasted leisure centre staff for failing to alert the police.

She said: "I spoke to the duty manager who said they would inform the police but when I spoke with another manager on Monday I was told that that it is not company policy for them to report incidents.

"They seemed so blasé and did not seem concerned that this pervert was there at all."

She said children swimming unsupervised with friends might be at risk.

"He is getting a cheap peep show by paying his admittance for a swim and I won’t be taking my children there again. The incident has quite unnerved me and all I can see is the man’s face when I try to get to sleep."

Larkfield Leisure Centre operations manager, Dave Bennett, said Mrs Anderson had been given incorrect information that it would report the incident on her behalf.

He said: "We are unable to do this on behalf of third parties. We are committed to co-operating with our customers and the police to deal with any incident of this kind, and will liaise with the police with regard to witness statements and CCTV footage."

He said staff were encouraged to be aware of any suspicious or unacceptable behaviour by users of the centre.

"I hope this reassures our customers that we are committed to their safety and will co-operate fully with all parties to ensure this," he added.

Tonbridge and Malling Police spokeswoman Gianna Pollero said the offender was described as white, 5ft 10in tall, of medium build with short, dark hair and a big nose. He was wearing a navy T-shirt and dark tracksuit bottoms.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the police on 01622 608189.
