THE Central Neighbourhood Policing Team in the Medway area has recently welcomed an influx of Police Community Support Officers.

This recent swell in numbers means that there are now more Neighbourhood Officers walking the beat in Medway than ever before.

The Central Policing Team now boasts and impressive 25 PCSOs who work alongside ward constables in an effort to engage with local people, combat antisocial behaviour and build stronger, safer communities.

By working as part of the Neighbourhood Policing Teams the officers can be more effective and forge a greater understanding of the issues that are important to local people.

Medway PCSOs have proven themselves to be a valued part of the neighbourhoods they serve running numerous initiatives including clean-up operations, policing surgeries and crime prevention campaigns.

Not only has their regular uniformed presence offered reassurance to residents they have also addressed the policing needs of local people in order to make a positive difference and enhance the quality of their lives.

CSO Supervisor Rikki McMachan, who is in charge of the Central Team PCSOs, said: "I am delighted to welcome these additions to the team and I am encouraged by the enthusiasm, professionalism and drive shown by these officers.

"They are keen to speak with local people, find out what they can do to further improve the service we offer and use their initiative and skills to combat antisocial behaviour.

"The feedback I have had from residents who have benefited from a local PCSO for sometime has been positive. People have commented that they feel safer as a result of the increased presence and also reassured that they know where to turn should they need help.

"I am looking forward to seeing what these latest recruits will achieve in the future.’

Ch Insp Peter Wedlake, who is in charge of neighbourhood policing in Medway, said: "PCSOs have proven to be an integral part of the neighbourhoods they serve, often acting as the ‘eyes and ears’ of the community. They provide an important service and play a crucial role in delivering neighbourhood policing to the people of Medway."

There are currently 62 Police Community Support Officers in Medway.
