Kent County Cricket Club sign Sri Lankan Malinga Bandara

Kent County Cricket Club have named Sri Lankan spinner Malinga Bandara as their second overseas player this summer.

The 30-year-old spin bowler worked with team director Paul Farbrace when he was the country’s assistant coach and will arrive at Canterbury in May.

He will be available for the the start of the Friends Provident t20 season and will share overseas duties with Australian Stuart Clark, who will be with the county when the season starts in April.

Farbrace (pictured) said: “I’m absolutely delighted that such a high quality cricketer has chosen to join Kent.

"I’m thrilled at the prospect of him teaming up with James Tredwell and creating a high quality spin attack.

"Malinga is an experienced cricketer and will add great knowledge to our team, both on and off the field.”

Bandara has played in eight tests since making his debut in 1998 and 31 one-day internationals.

He has taken 391 first-class wickets at an average of 24.96 and is a useful lower-order batsman, with a first-class average of 19.97.
