Kent County Cricket Club starting search for a new head coach

Kent chairman George Kennedy says he hopes the club will be in a position to appoint a new head coach before Christmas following Paul Farbrace’s resignation as director of cricket.

A meeting is scheduled for on Thursday to discuss the future of on-field activities after key batsmen Martin van Jaarsveld and Joe Denly joined Farbrace out of St Lawrence last week.

Chairman of cricket, Graham Johnson, has already begun the search for Farbrace’s successor and is expected to present his shortlist to the club’s committee in the next few weeks.

While Mr Kennedy (pictured) insisted the club will not be rushed into making a quick appointment, he accepted there is a need to stabilise the club after "a bit of turmoil" over the last week.

He said: "These things don’t happen overnight and nor would we want to be rushed into grabbing somebody that is available.

"We have to go through a formal process to find out who is available and could do the best job for Kent.

"The season has only just finished so we have got a long way to go until the start of next season.

"I would, however, be disappointed if we were not in a position in the next two months to at least have a road ahead.

"It might well be that we couldn’t make any formal announcements, it would depend on contractual situations elsewhere if they were leaving another club."
