Library shut after electrical fire

Gillingham Library has been closed following an electrical fire.

The fire started between noon and 1pm on Saturday and was extinguished by firefighters.

A council spokesman said the fire meant the building would be closed for the remainder of the day and possibly opened for business again on Monday.

They added: "I think it was quite busy but the library was evacuated and no-one was injured."

An emergency electrician is currently working on the problem.

The council spokesman said customers should phone ahead to check whether the building re-opens on Monday.
