A body has been recovered from the Swale by a police launch after it was found by Whitstable lifeboat on Tuesday.

It was that of one of two men who had been missing since Sunday evening from the Queenborough area of the Isle of Sheppey.

Whitstable lifeboat was launched at 9.08am Tuesday and began a search of the eastern Swale, eventually finding a body between Ridham Dock and the Kingsferry Bridge.

The lifeboat stood by until a police launch arrived to recover the body.

Concern for the two men had sparked an air and sea search involving lifeboats from Sheerness and Whitstable, coastguard units from Sheppey and Herne Bay and the RAF sea king helicopter from Wattisham in Suffolk.

Police earlier recovered the other body on mud flats in the Queenborogh area.
