Commuters suffered rush-hour gridlock this afternoon after a crash partly closed the Dartford tunnel.

An accident at J30 of the motorway led to traffic being restricted to one lane on both sides of the tunnel at about 12.45pm.

All lanes were re-opened about two hours later.

But there was still traffic gridlock into rush-hour and long queues at 6pm.

Queues stretched backed to J3 at Swanley on the anti-clockwise carriageway and to beyond Lakeside in the clockwise direction.

Meanwhile, one lane of the anti-clockwise carriageway of the M25 at J2 at the Darenth Interchange was blocked by a broken down lorry at about 2.30pm.
