Fire at flats in Longhill Avenue, Chatham

A man was rescued by firefighters after a fire broke out in his bedroom.

Crews were called to a block of flats in Longhill Avenue, Chatham, to reports of an occupant trapped inside by a blaze on the second floor of a three-storey building.

Two fire engines attended and firefighters rescued a man who was suffering with smoke inhalation, before passing him into the care of paramedics.

Crews wore breathing apparatus and put the fire out using a hose reel jet.

It happened at around 4.10pm.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
