Herne Bay MP Roger Gale was among those who sailed on the Greenpeace ship Rainbow Warrior from Chatham to the Kentish Flats wind farm.

He and 30 others, including climate change expert Dr Geoff Meadon, from Canterbury Christ Church University, set off from Chatham as part of Greenpeace’s Give Coal the Boot campaign.

The activist group chose to visit Kent to highlight how the decision to build a new coal power station at Kingsnorth, Hoo, could have an impact on the fight against global warming around the world.

The ship, followed by a police escort, sailed past Kingsnorth Power Station and passengers were able to get an up-close view of the jetty where coal is brought into the plant.

The journey continued to the Kentish Flats wind farm off Herne Bay.

While on board, Dr Meadon gave a talk on how climate change will affect the Kent coastline.

He showed passengers maps of the county, highlighting areas which will be underwater if temperatures continue to rise.

Members of the RSPB also spoke about the impact global warming will have on wildlife in Kent.
