A mother-of-two who drove along a pavement and knocked down a pedestrian later reported him to the police for damaging her car.

Sarah Priest, 37, suffered what was described as a "momentary loss of temper while under stress" when she struck Kenneth Capon during the road-rage incident in Bearsted in March last year.

Minutes earlier she had narrowly missed the 53-year-old as she mounted the pavement in Spot Lane to manoeuvre through a chicane.

Mr Capon opened her passenger door to remonstrate with her before slamming the door shut. However, Priest then drove forward striking Mr Capon and throwing him to the ground. Fortunately, he suffered only minor injuries.

Maidstone Crown Court heard that Priest paused briefly after the incident, then drove off and later reported Mr Capon to the police for causing damage to her car.

Recorder Johanna Cutts QC said: "He suffered pain and shock. However he behaved that evening he did not deserve the way you treated him."

Priest, of Ivy Street, Rainham, admitted assault causing actual bodily harm. She was sentenced to nine months imprisonment suspended for 18 months and received a two-year driving ban.
