New chief for Poppy Appeal

THE new national chairman of fund-raising for the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal is Ivan Glendinning. Mr Glendinning takes over from Noel Rogers, who has held the position for seven years.

Anyone taking up the post must have a long association with the legion. Mr Glendinning, who is still an unpaid volunteer, joined the Coleraine branch of the legion in Northern Ireland in 1969.

From there he rose to become regional vice chairman of the Royal British Legion in Northern Ireland in 1993.

Mr Glendinning visited the Royal British Legion's headquarters in Aylesford to meet staff and officially take up his new role. He will still be based in Northern Ireland.
