Operation Stack still in force

THE M20 remains partially closed today due to the continuation of Operation Stack.

The coastbound carriageway is shut between junctions eight and nine and between 11 and 13 to help ease the backlog of lorries at the Channel Tunnel.

Cars and light vehicles are being diverted onto the A20 at junction eight, with lorries being allowed back onto the motorway to queue.

Police say there have been no accidents reported overnight, although freezing temperatures once again overnight is causing difficult driving conditions.

The A20 between Lenham and Charing and the A246, Detling Hill, are especially dangerous, with reports of black ice.

The major routes in the county are said to be passable with care, although police are warning motorists to drive with caution, allowing extra time for their journeys and keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front.

They also advise drivers to make sure they have warm clothes and a torch with them when travelling.
