What a whopper!

A Sheppey woman has given birth to one of Britain's biggest ever
babies.

Jack George Burt weighed 13lb 5.5oz and was delivered by
c-section at Medway Maritime Hospital on St George’s Day.

His shocked parents Jason Burt and fiancee Abby Morgan returned
home to Uplands Way, Halfway, with their huge bundle of joy last
week.

Despite being just over a week old, the newborn is already
wearing clothes for babies aged three to six months.

Abby, 36, said although they knew he was going to be big, no one
had any idea he would come out the size he did.

She has another son, seven-year-old Ben, who weighed 7lb 13oz
when he was born and says there is no medical reason for Jack's
size - he has been tested for diabetes which came back clear.

Abby - who works with adults with learning difficulties - had
planned to have a natural birth and was induced twice, but was
eventually forced to have a c-section 13 days after her due
date.

She said: "I guess the c-section was a blessing in the end as I
wouldn’t have wanted to try that!

"I think everybody was shocked and amazed. Jason was cuddling
him and everyone was saying we want to get him on the scales.

"We used to joke about having a 9lb baby and I said I’m not
having double figures.

"I thought Jason was joking when he told me. Although Jack is
chunky I don't think of him as being massive - he's in proportion."

Proud first-time dad Jason, 36, said: "When they saw how big he
was they all rushed to the scales.

"Lots of people came in to see him. We weren't expecting him to
be this big – it was a shock but he’s absolutely gorgeous."

Jack's middle name is in honour of Jason's grandfather and
Abby’s step-dad and because he was born on St George’s Day.

Britain's heaviest recorded newborn boy was Guy Warwick Carr,
delivered in Cumbria in 1992 and weighing in at 15lbs 8oz.

Gemma Tevendale, from Swindon, Wiltshire, gave birth naturally
to Britain's heaviest girl in February - Suzie Gzowski, who weighed
12lbs 12oz.

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the world's
biggest ever baby was born to Canadian Anna Bates of Canada in
1879, weighing 23 pounds.
