The distraught owner of a cat swung violently by its tail hopes
the culprit is caught before he can harm any other animals.

The incident caused nationwide revulsion after CCTV footage
captured the attack outside the Camden Arms pub in Ramsgate last
month.

The shocking footage shows the man 'dancing' down the street,
whirling two-year-old Mowgli around at arms length, narrowly
missing hitting the cat's head on parked cars and the pavement.

"this person needs to be punished before he can do anything like this again. it's evil..." – michelle buchanan, mowgli's owner

Eyewitnesses suggest
four people were involved but it is not known whether other people
seen in the film are passers-by or connected with the incident.

The first Mowgli's owner, Michelle Buchanan, 43, knew about her
pet's terrifying experience was when she returned home from work
and spoke to her next door neighbour.

She said: "My neighbour spotted what was happening and had gone
out to and told them to stop, asking whether they'd like it to
happen to them.

"They let Mowgli go and he ran off but she told me they just
stood around laughing hysterically about it. She said it was
demonic.

"I immediately went inside and looked for him but he was nowhere
to be seen. All I could find was a lot of black fur in the
basement. It was horrible – I didn't know whether he was alive or
dead."

Despite the traumatic experience, Mowgli is safe and sound,
although extremely shaken by the incident.

"He won't go out," Michelle said. "He just sits on my bed
all day every day. Before he was attacked he'd be scratching at the
door every five minutes to be let out. He's just not the same cat
anymore."

Sadly it may have been Mowgli's good nature that got him into
trouble.

"He's the most friendly cat you'll ever meet," Michelle
explained. "He usually sits on the stairs next door and will
go up to anybody. I guess that was his downfall as he was extremely
trusting and inquisitive."

Despite the incident being show on national TV and a number of
websites, Michelle still hasn't watched the film herself.

"I don't want to see it," she said. "Just seeing the stills is
enough for me. This person needs to be punished before he can do
anything like this again. It's evil."

The incident prompted
a flurry of incensed comments online
.

One woman said she had made her five children watch the
footage to ensure they were never tempted to do the same thing.

Klare Kennet from RSPCA said: "We've had a really good
response since the footage was published.

"A large number of people have phoned us with names and we're
following up on these. However, we're still urging anyone with
information to come forward."

Caroline Doe, an inspector with the animal welfare charity,
added: "This was a very violent, nasty attack on a cat.

"Anyone who witnessed this outside the pub must have been as
shocked and appalled as we were.

"We're hoping someone will recognise this man and come forward
so we can investigate this fully."

Anyone who witnessed the attack or who recognises the man is
asked to contact the RSPCA in confidence on 0300 1234 999.
